On Tuesday, 23 December 2014, students of the Alma Mater Europaea visited the homeless in Maribor. They created a Christmas spirit as they were baking biscuits and singing Christmas songs with them.
The event was organised by the Student Council of Alma Mater Europaea, and is a part of charity and volunteering in which our students are active throughout the year. Lidija Ribič, student of social gerontology and head of the aforementioned project says that Christmas is a time when vulnerable groups need company. Alen Kapel, president of the Student Council AMEU explained: "Students can do a lot for a better tomorrow. Such events are only a small part of what we can do. We thank the AMEU management for buying a new washing machine which was donated to the homeless."
The homeless were also happy about the visit and the presents. Ljubomir Gagić, head of the Homeless Shelter Maribor, added at the event: "These students were baking biscuits with us the previous year, I am happy that they remembered us this year as well. Thank you for the washing machine which will definitely come in handy."
