Lecture of an English Physician and Expert in Family Medicine, Professor Vijay Kumar

On Saturday, 18th of February, Alma Mater Europaea – ECM was visited by renowned professor and doctor prof. dr. Vijay Kumar.

In Geat Britain, he worked as an adviser to Prime Minister Tony Blair in reforming the English health care system. He supported the introduction and personnel training for minor surgical procedures in health care facilities. This system reduced costs, pressure on the major hospitals, in particular, the system is more favorable for patients as the queues were reduced by more than half. It is based on the principle of "local services for local patients by local doctors in local institutions."

After the reception, Professor Kumar gave a lecture of the health system and public health in England, which today features so called 18 weeks rule, which means that the patient has  to complete treatment and therapy in the 18 weeks after the first visit to the doctor. This was achieved with a major reform of competence of healthcare workers and institutions. They have arranged triage and rules of proceeding with patients very successfully.

With eminent guests, who lectured students as well as invited professor of AMEU ECM, we agreed on future cooperation. We can expect more interesting lecture by renowned expert.
