Renowned physiotherapists, excellent sportsmen and sportswomen, nominees for the Slovenian Hero Award, employees of the United Nations – these are just some of our students from the Alma Mater Europea. Samo Mikl is a graduate of the first generation of physiotherapists at the Alma Mater Europaea. He is one of the physiotherapists of Filip Flisar, the current World Champion in Ski Cross. Right after graduation, Mikl became an apprentice in an Austrian spa centre in order to complete the compulsory apprenticeship for AMEU. In addition to his work obligations, he is also one of the medical team of the Slovenian Olympic Committee. As an external contractor, he cooperates with the Institute of Sports Medicine, which operates at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Maribor. Mikl got introduced to Filip Flisar through this institute. Mikl is currently a postgraduate student of the Sports Physiotherapy programme at the University of Salzburg.
Vito Dragič is a multiple national champion in judo and has won several medals at European Judo Championships. He studies physiotherapy at AMEU. »When I was 15, I severely injured myself for the first time. Physiotherapy was love at first sight for me. Physiotherapist Matej Čebokelj from Celje was in charge of my rehabilitation process and he inspired me to enrol to this study programme. Being a professional judoist, I chose to study part-time, as this allows me to continue with my training, preparations and competitions. I do not regret enrolling to AMEU and I recommend it to anyone wanting to become a physiotherapist,« says Vito Dragič, who is currently completing his Bachelor's thesis.
Lidija Ribič, Vlado Miljković and Darjan Kocmut are students of the Social Gerontology programme at AMEU. Before the New Year, they helped a 70-year-old man Franček from Ptuj. In just a few days, they managed to renovate his apartment, which had been damaged by fire. For their selfless act, they were nominated for the Slovenian Hero Award, whose honorary sponsor is Borut Pahor, the President of the Republic of Slovenia. All three students work for the Mozaik Generacij Cooperative, whose activities are aimed at seniors. In February 2015, they organised the 1st Slovenian Senior Masquerade in the town of Ptuj.
Jelena Kremenjaš is a postgraduate student of the European Business Studies programme at AMEU. She works for the United Nations and covers the territory of Croatia. »My job requires a lot of business travels, so it is important for me to study at a faculty that allows me to use the latest distant learning technology. The study programme is fully adapted to the needs of students who are already employed. For Alma Mater, students are the most important. The educational centre encourages their independence and provides them with the knowledge that will allow them to become competitive at the labour market.«
